Curling Training Aid used first time in Africa
No ice? No problem!
Overcoming challenges with new technology.
Sliding is the essence of the sport - the ability to slide on one foot on a frictionless surface with the ability to control and focus the energy of your moving body in to pushing a 20kg stone accurately down ~150 ft of ice to within a centimeter or less of your target.
There is no ice in Nigeria – how will the team learn to slide?
New technology – temperature-agnostic training aid mimics frictional properties of ice
For the first time in the African continent, this device, developed in Stanford University, USA by a team led by a member of NCF, Chris Neimeth, was installed in our secretariat in Surulere, Lagos on 22nd March 2022.
After the installation, our local junior curling team had their first experience using the device to train. This will help them learn the basics of the curling game like positioning and sliding.
